You’ve played the video games, now watch the movies they were based on! The extended version of all three movies back to back to back totals under just under 11 and a half hours. For such an epic journey all the rations will be provided (Pizza, etc.), and by the end we will probably be feeling Frodo’s exhaustion. Never journey alone, so invite a few friends and weather the storms of Middle Earth together. If you have never seen the movies before or once pondered seeing the complete story from beginning to end this is for you. Btw, in case you were wondering, yes, it is free!

Grandma’s Taco Party

As unusual as this may sound, Shawn’s grandmother is throwing us a taco party this Sunday! By party i mean anytime with Shawn’s grandmother is a party. Grandma is a youthful vibrant women, lifelong missionary with her husband, who loves hosting and blessing others. Just call her Grandma.

We are leaving the church (New Life, 1125 Terra Nova Blvd.)around 1pm or 1:30pm on Sunday (Nov 7), and heading to Grandma’s house in San Bruno, and we should be back around 4pm.

And she makes amazing tacos!

God’s Multiplication

Last June and early July the country of Romania was hit with terrible storms and flooding. Many people lost their homes, crops, and even lives. Missionary, Anne Boyd, grandmother of two TYG’ers has been trying to help those in need in the province of Transylvania where she lives. So this past Saturday TYG’ers went to a Standford football and worked the concessions there, and was able to raise $1,000!!!!! to help Anne help those in need.

Before the game we prayed that the Lord would multiply this money where sent it. And he answered … someone decided to match what we raised! So we will be sending $2,000 to Romania!!!

Flamingos Flocking for Hunger

To raise money for the 30 Hour Famine, TYG is unleashing a flock of flamingos on the community!

For a donation of $15 or more the Flamingo Flocking crew, the “Flockers”, will deliver a dozen birds to unsuspecting yards to where they have been directed to roost, usually arriving unnoticed in the cloak of darkness or while the homeowners are at work. The flamingo flocking recipient will be left with an explanation, care instructions, and the number to the Flamingo Rescue Hotline. The Flockers will remove the birds within 48 hours.

Flocking Insurance: You can buy Standard Insurance for $15 to protect yourself from 2 flockings. For those who are really worried, you can purchase our Premium Top of the Line LEAVE ME THE FLOCK ALONE Insurance for $30 and you are protected for the entire season. Anti-flocking insurance is perfect for you if:

  • You are flamingo phobic
  • You would not like tacky, beady-eyed flamingos on your yard
  • You are afraid what others might think
  • You do not wish to be flocked “again”

To place an order or bye insurance, write Chris an e-mail @ chiron1138@aol.com with the Name and Address of of the “victim.” Checks can be made to “World Vision,” and please read the guidelines before flocking.

Did you know?

  • 25,000 kids under the age of 5 will die today from Hunger, Poverty, and Disease.
  • 13,000 of those kids will die just from causes related to Hunger
  • That’s one child every 7 seconds
  • World Hunger is totally, absolutely 100% preventable!

The 30 Hour Famine is an International Youth Event sponsored by the nonprofit organization, World Vision. On March 26th – 27th.  TYG  will not eat for 30 Hours to raise awareness and support for this Crisis. For $1 you can give food and care to a child who needs it in a 3rd world country for an entire day. Our goal: to raise $3,650 to feed 100 children for one year. We will hunger so they will not. Is this goal too lofty? With your support I don’t think so.  Will you help us in reaching this goal? You can sponsor a specific youth, the group as a whole, or take part in any of our fundraisers, and all proceeds will go towards this one goal.

A Divine Appointment

Last Sunday afternoon, the sun shone brightly through the Starbucks window upon a small table. People on a mission passed by to get their afternoon coffee before the store was closed at 3pm for a weekend renovation. Four people crammed around the small table with a mission of their own, to plan upcoming events for TYG. Sipping from his Venti Cinnamon Dolche Latte, Chris curtailed the small talk and offered to start the meeting with a prayer. After heads bowed, a few words, and an Amen. Chris started into a short devotion, but was quickly cut short by an elderly lady stepping up behind him. A youthful energy emanated from her as she spoke.

She exhorted them for being young believers, to keep up the good work, and to continue to trust and follow Him. She reminisced first coming to Christ at a young age, and meeting her husband at a summer bible camp. She grieved the recent loss of her husband and then explained that they had been missionaries to Romania, and that she would be in town for two weeks before heading back. Kyle, the most perceptive of the group slowly spoke up, “Are you Shelby Boyd’s (a TYG’er) Grandmother?” “Yes!” she replied. And the group asked in almost unison, “How can we help you?”

Before Anne Boyd returns to Romania, for children and teenagers she is looking to gather as many Christian Books, Cd’s, and DVD’s as possible (examples include Veggie Tales, and The Shack). All donations can be brought to TYG on Wed. Feb 10th.

Anne is also raising money to print Hungarian Bibles, only$ 10 apiece. All information can be found about that Here. You can find her Website Here., and Blog Here.

Postponed: Sorting Haiti Donations with Sirona Cares

We will not be meeting this Saturday (Feb 6th) to sort donations to Haiti with Sirona Cares. As their Blog tells:

“Our King Street location is being closed, as the space was recently leased.  This lease is good news for the owner of the building who has generously supported our endeavor from the beginning.  This is good for Sirona Cares as well, for we are moving to a new, larger facility that will accommodate all of the goods we have collected and sorted, as well as those being collected at every fire house in San Francisco.”

Once they settle into their new facility we will again setup a day to help them sort donations so stay tuned.
