We Did It!

Thanks so much for everyone who participated in the 30 Hour Famine. You guys did such an awesome job and we applaud you for being willing to go 30 hours without food, just so we can experience a taste of what it is like to be hungry. Hopefully our awareness and compassion will continue as we live in this world! Here are some pics from the weekend, and stay tuned for a final total of the amount of money raised!

da-nacho

Saturday, February 21st starting at 7pm is………….Nacho Night. Don’t be deceived and think that we are just eating some delish nachos….no, no, no. There is much, much more. Show up no later than 7 pm at New Life and have a blast with us for Nacho Night. It should be a fun, chill night that you won’t want to miss out on! See you there!

Clash ‘n Bowl!

cosmic_pic

Friday, January 30th TYG is going to hold it’s first annual Clash ‘n Bowl! We are going Astro Bowling at Pacifica’s very own Sea Bowl. We will meet at the alley at 9:45 pm and will bowl from 10pm to 12:30am. It will cost $15/person, and it is very, very, very important [did I mention that it is important] that you tell us if you are coming and if you are bringing a friend, so that we know how many lanes we need.

You’re probably wondering why it’s called Clash ‘n Bowl…Well…you need to come with the craziest outfit and hair as you can. You still need to be modest, but the goal is not to match or “look good”, but rather looking good on this night will depend on how well you clash. So go to Goodwill, or the Salvation Army, or just dig through your closet and show up in your craziest gear ready for the best bowling night of your life!

Call your leaders if you have any questions.

Some Changes To Know About

Starting January 7, 2009 we will be meeting at a new time for TYG. We will no longer be meeting on Saturdays from 6:30-8:00, instead we will be meeting on Wednesdays from 7:00-8:30 pm. Deeper will also be moving from every other Monday night at 7 pm to every other Sunday afternoon.

Saturdays have been a difficult time for TYG since it is a weekend night. We know that depending on the week things might get scheduled and events take place on Saturdays which prohibits you guys from coming. Also when we have our monthly event we have to cancel TYG in order for it to happen. We wanted to create a time to meet that would allow you students to be able to regularly come and not have to miss out. We have talked to other youth groups and found that Wednesday nights seemed best, and the majority of youth groups meet on Wednesdays. We also talked to teachers and discovered that Wednesdays are best for homework reasons, with Thursday night being a test night.

We are soooo excited for the change to happen! We think it will really be best for everyone, and it will give us something to look forward to in the middle of the week! It will be a chance to come and hang out with your friends for a while on a school night!

We also have a new youth leader in Sarah Turner!!! We are so excited that Sarah has decided to come and join us. Sarah will be teaming up with Liz to be there for you girls!! Make sure you welcome Sarah!

HoLiDaY FuN!

Hey Everyone! Thanks to everyone who helped us raise $1,200 for the Fairmont District, by working the USC/Stanford football game! It was soooo much fun, and praise God, we will get the chance to do it some more for those of you who weren’t able to come but wanted to!

Here are TYG’s December events. We have 3 awesome events planned for you guys for the month. You won’t want to miss out, and we hope to see you all there!!

December 13th – Nightfall

This is our 2nd annual Christmas banquet. Last year was a blast, as we all dressed up and the youth were served a delicious, wonderful, breath-taking meal by the youth leaders. We also will be doing a white elephant gift exchange. [The price limit is $10. So buy a gift, or bring something you already have from home, and make sure it's not more expense than $10. Wrap it up and we will exchange them when we get there. It can be a serious gift or a joke, whichever you like.]

Just make sure that you dress up! It is a semi-formal event. So no jeans, sweats or t-shirts. Guys must wear khakis or slacks and a collared shirt. Girls need to wear a dress, skirt or dress pants. Last year we had a blast, so we hope that you all are able to make it!

We will be meeting at the church at 7pm. Any questions call Josh or Liz at [503] 593-9017 or [503] 593-9014.

December 19th – Sweater Party!!

TYG’s Christmas Party will be held at the Markham’s house, just like a normal Friday night, except this Friday night we will be wearing ugly Christmas sweaters. There will be a prize for the person who has the ugliest Christmas sweater. So go out and shop at Goodwill or any thrift store and see what you can find! We will also have Christmas treats and will play games! We will start at 7pm.

Saturday, December 20th New Life is going caroling again throughout the neighborhoods in the back of the valley. We had a great time last year as we were able to bless people in Pacifica with our beautiful voices as well as a witness to the gospel. We will be meeting around 6-6:30pm, which is when we normally have TYG, and we will head out with the rest of the church and carol for about an hour-an hour and a half.

October Events

We have some extremely fun things coming up this beautiful month of October for all you amazingly cool high schoolers.

#1 – Mystery Night with Church of the Highlands

We are partnering with their youth group for their monthly “Mystery Night” which is always a blast. You won’t want to miss this event. It’ll blow your mind! This will take place on Wednesday, October 29th. Stay tuned for specifics like where we are meeting, what time, and how much it costs.

#2 – Halloween party, on Halloween, Friday, October 31st. Our very own Rachel Turner and Kyle Day are planning this breath-taking night for you. We are going to be dressing up [of course...that's like a requirement right?] and hanging out with the Young Adult Group [yag].

Stay tuned for specific details!!!

#3 – Worship night with guest speaker Steve Horner! We are having a worship night with Church of the Highlands youth group on Saturday, November 1st. We will be meeting at normal TYG time which is 6 pm. Steve Horner is the co-founder of Rancho De Sus Ninos, which serves over 500 children in their orphanage, school, daycare and youth center. It should be an amazing night of worship and hearing what God has done in Steve’s life as well as how we can get involved as a youth group.

Don’t miss out on these!! It should be a great month for TYG. Remember we still have Deeper groups going for guys and girls. Our next deeper session is October 20th at 7 pm. The girls meet @ the Cahill’s and the guys @ the Markham’s.

See you all @ TYG this Saturday @ 6 pm!!

Church in the Park changes!!!

Hey everyone! There is one BIG change to the plans for this weekend which will make things a bit easier. We will be meeting at New Life at 10:45 am instead of at the BART station at 11:15. This will allow us some time to have a brief rundown of what to expect and we will then leave from the church to the BART station. PLEASE be there BY 10:45 so that we can be there on time. Hope to see a lot of you there! This should be an awesome experience and chance to serve the Lord!

Josh
